Working in the South Downs area, each artist has developed a unique and informed practice. The artwork from this covers a rich and diverse range of subjects and media shared through an annual show in Chichester at the Oxmarket Contemporary gallery.

Liz Hanan’s latest installation “Indestructible” comprises a collection of pigmented and waxed ceramic books which have been created in response to the destruction of millions of children’s books during War.
Their form has not been altered, telling the story of strength and resilience and the continuing power of stories to survive violence and uncertainty.
Wax forms a covering that is both protective and fragile, echoing the precarious conditions surrounding childhood during conflict. Together, the materials explore loss, resilience and the survival of imagination, showing how stories can remain powerful even in the face of destruction.
Liz Hanan studied at Chichester University, obtaining a B.A Fine Art (Hons) degree in 2007. She works predominately in ceramics from her studio near Chichester and exhibits her work regularly both locally and further afield, most recently in London.
